These general training elective courses allow for the integral development of all UFRO students. The course syllabuses are oriented mostly towards foreign students who take part in the student mobility program. These courses allow them to make contact with our regional context, in addition to practicing and improving their use of the Spanish language.

 

Mapuzungun course

Through the study of the main elements of the Mapuche worldview and the basic learning of the language, you will achieve an approach to the Mapuche culture that will complement your professional training.

 

Araucania without Borders

Mainly aimed at foreign students participating in the Student Mobility Program at the Universidad de La Frontera, this program will allow to have concrete lessons through unique experiences in a travel route through the main places of Temuco and the Araucanía Region. experiencing contact with our regional reality.

 

Mapuche Society and Culture

The course is oriented towards knowledge and appreciation of Mapuche society and culture, through the analysis of social history and cultural practices.

 

A View at the Mapuche People through Documentaries

Through the analysis of different media you will identify basic aspects of the representation of the indigenous people, with emphasis on the Mapuche people, valuing diversity and multiculturalism.

 

Mapuche Weaving Workshop

Through the study and practice of Mapuche textile art you will know and value aspects typical of the Mapuche culture.

 

Folkloric and Latin American Dances

In this course you will learn and perform dances typical of America, enhancing your rhythmic-motor conditions.

 

The Boom of Latin American Literature

It is a theoretical-practical subject  oriented to students learning the literary phenomenon called “The Latin American boom” through reading and discussing a selection of essential and representative texts of it, whose authors are icons and highlights in Latin America, allowing to relate discourses that critically analyze issues related to aspects such as the history of literature, the problems of periodization, the construction of traditions and the recurrence of issues from different perspectives.

 

Intercultural Healthcare from Mapuche Medicine and its Worldview

Throughout this program, you will delve into traditional Mapuche medicine and its worldview, establishing comparisons with traditional medicine.

 

Communication skills for the production of written texts

 

Effective Communication in Academic Contexts

The subject Effective Communication in Academic Contexts, seeks to develop the communicative skills of students, oriented to oral and written communication skills and the use of ICT, and through the simulation of practical situations, games and dynamics, to establish and improve communication conditions. In this sense, the APA standards will be reviewed, papers will be read, presentations will be prepared for congresses or theses, among others.

 

Speaking: more than talking, expressing

This course aims to develop in students the communication skills necessary to express their ideas more clearly, interact with their audience, and effectively use their voice and body to improve understanding of their speech. The idea is for students to use support resources that draw attention and motivate recipients. The skills described are achieved through constant exercise and training of the voice and body, simulations of communicative situations, activities to overcome shyness, among other techniques. The subject is theoretical and practical; therefore, the exercise and active participation of students is a fundamental requirement for the development of skills.

 

Read, write and express yourself in the digital age

This subject will allow you to develop and apply reading comprehension strategies, use search tools and information management, extend the domain in the use of office tools (word processor, spreadsheet and presentations) and online collaborative tools. It is intended that through this subject students can develop in an optimal way the Instrumental Generic Competences (Written communication in Spanish, Reading comprehension and Use of information and communication technologies) to develop effectively in different learning contexts.
